Why Choose a Tarot Deck for Your Reading?

There are lots of reasons to choose your own tarot deck for a reading, the most important being that they are not all alike. Many are similar, but there are also decks that are in a completely different style, and may have different card names, images, and meanings - even different shapes and numbers of cards in the deck.

Even among decks that are similar, each has nuances and details that can influence what that card means in your particular reading. For example, the Four of Pentacles is often associated with being careful with your money. Whether this is a benefit, a struggle, unhealthy stinginess, or a solid financial foundation for your future depends a lot on the specific image on the card, along with the details of your situation.

Some decks will just give you a better feeling when you look at them, or feel more like your personality. Just like artwork you would choose for your home, some will attract you or actively turn you off, depending on the colors, style, and the symbolism used. You may want to find a deck you particularly like, then ask for it every time you request a reading (or even get one for yourself).

As a reader, one of the reasons I think this is important is that I truly believe that the deck that is chosen is selected for a reason - that it has something particular to say to the person whose reading is being done. If you don't choose your deck, I will choose one for you based on my intuition at that moment. Though I trust that process, I always feel more at peace when the querent chooses. :)
